The Administration should establish a process by which an independent panel of experts periodically considers whether assumptions made in the standard setting process are still valid. While the NOI and TAR represent a good start, it is clear that much work remains before new standards are proposed.

SAE International is creating a new Vehicle Battery Standards Committee which will serve as a center for standardization to support the ongoing development of new and advanced battery technologies. The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers fully supports the creation by SAE of a new Vehicle Battery Standards Committee.

The European Parliament and the Council have reached provisional agreement on a regulation setting, for the first time in the EU, strict CO 2 emission standards for trucks. The deal follows an agreement reached in December on new CO 2 emission standards for cars and light vans in the EU for the period after 2020.
