Separate MIT, IEA reports both outline major expansion in role of natural gas; caution on climate benefits

Speaking at the launch of the IEA report in London, IEA Executive Director Nobuo Tanaka said that “ An expansion of gas use alone is no panacea for climate change. In the US, a combination of demand reduction and displacement of coal-fired power by gas-fired generation is the lowest cost way to reduce CO 2 emissions by up to 50%.
