In the world of electric bikes, the words “carbon fiber” usually means big bucks. That means carbon fiber electric bikes have always commanded premium prices – at least, until now. But just because it’s a lower-cost bike doesn’t mean it’s cheap. That’s a featherweight in the e-bike world, believe it or not.

Speed rarely comes cheap, and this test car started at $50,800. An optional carbon-fiber spoiler added $950 and 19-inch copper wheels cost $2,186. Save for the trio of large exhaust outlets and the probably not necessary optional carbon-fiber spoiler, there's little of the "boy racer" styling of the Civic Type R.

One thing that’s appealing about the Supra – and its nearest rival, the Nissan Z – is that while it’s not exactly cheap, it’s not crazy expensive, either. Then again, iDrive is better than Toyota’s previous offering. That said, this particular test unit came close to the $60K mark and based at over $55K. That’s the case here.

My tour of Ride1Up’s factory took me straight onto the factory floor where parallel production lines were busy cranking out Ride1Up’s ultra-affordable $995 Portola folding e-bike on one side of the factory, and the company’s budget-priced $2,295 CF Racer1 carbon fiber road/gravel e-bike.
