Though he ignores the other reasons a wealthy person might buy a Bentley – style, creature comforts, as an indication of socioeconomic status, and so on. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be allowed to buy a car that has a high potential top speed.

It’s called the XC40 Recharge, and the earliest versions aren’t cheap, priced from about $55,000 including delivery. Best of all, Volvo has handed over its dashboard and infotainment software to Android Auto. On the other hand, both cars have Android Auto in the dash, which proved to be a much more compelling feature than I’d expected.

I dunno if it’s the biggest surprise, but the most pleasing news of 2022 was the way the irrepressible die-hards in what remains of the Aussie auto industry leapt on the opportunity EV presents. If it wasn’t so stupidly expensive (around $100K, at least), I’d buy one. It can’t come too soon and it’s a good bet it will come from China.
