In a surprising but welcomed series of events over the last two years, Tesla opened its charge connector and managed to convince the auto industry to make it the standard EV connector in North America. This is going to simplify significantly the EV charging experience and enable non-Tesla EVs to use the Supercharger network.

Ten major vehicle manufacturers have committed to making automatic emergency braking (AEB) a standard feature on all new vehicles built, the US Department of Transportation, its National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) announced today.

Ford’s announcement about adopting Tesla NACS has led other big names in the auto industry to do the same, like General Motors, Volvo, and Rivian.

While the mandate requires that 15% of all vehicles sold in the state by 2025 be ZEV, as of today less than one percent (0.65%) of vehicles sold in Maryland meet that standard. The goal of the mandate is to improve the environment by spurring the sale of vehicles with alternative powertrains thus reducing carbon emissions.

The Auto Alliance has sent a letter to EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt requesting that the US Environmental Protection Agency withdraw the Final Determination on the Appropriateness of the Model Year 2022-2025 Light-Duty Vehicle Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards under the Midterm Evaluation which EPA announced on 13 January 2017.
