In 2008 the company released a test fleet of 450 Mini-E vehicles and is getting ready to announce its second phase. Similarly, in China, the sheer size of the auto industry and the country’s ambitious clean-energy goals suggest a potentially huge market for electric cars. The third phase will be released around 2015.

The new administration’s stimulus package allots $2B for advanced batteries, $300M for federal and states fleets to buy new clean fuel vehicles and $7,500 tax rebate for PHEV, with yet more money in the Auto-Industry Re-tooling fund. No on has a lock on this future; everything is up for grabs.
