With the initiation of the EFRCs in April 2008, the Department of Energy (DOE) budgeted approximately $100 million for multiple EFRC awards starting in FY 2009. Study complex material structures on the nanoscale to identify key features for their potential use as materials to convert solar energy and heat to electricity.
