The success story that is the new Toyota Prius continued into July as it once again topped the sales charts in Japan. This is the third successive month that the Prius has been the top-selling car in Japan (see previous article ). It now takes it total domestic sales figures for the year to date to 79,122 units.

The Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS for short, or ‘cash for clunkers’ as it is more commonly known) was the US’s answer to the scrappage schemes in Germany and the UK which appeared to have revitalised their respective automotive sectors.
