If you've been to New York City lately, you may have noticed an increasing number of hybrid taxis on the roads: mostly Ford Escape HybridSUVs, but also Toyota Camry Hybrid and Nissan AltimaHybrid sedans, and a scattering of others too.
GM came in second for total hybrid sales in the month, with 1,807 units sold. The Tahoe, Yukon and Escalade two-mode full-size SUVs posted a combined 632 units, representing 8.4% Combined sales of the Escape and Mariner hybrids fell 25.8% Sales of the non-hybrid Escape and Mariner fell 47.8% of all Altima models sold.
GM sold a total of 1,612 hybrids in March: 609 units of the Tahoe, Yukon and Escalade two-mode SUVs (7.3% 362 units of the Saturn VUE hybrid (10.4% 547 units of the Malibu hybrid (3.7% 26 units of the Saturn Aura hybrid (1.3% Nissan posted 834 units of the AltimaHybrid, a 0.2% of total sales).
The new Fusion and Milan hybrid sedans sold a combined 1,165 units, representing 5.7% General Motors sold 1,534 hybrids in April, comprising: 523 units of the two-mode SUVs (Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade), representing 4.5% 547 units of the Malibu hybrid, representing 3.7% 338 units of the Saturn VUE hybrid, representing 11.3%

The Altima remained the volume leader, with a 46.5% to 47,018 units.
Honda sold one Accord hybrid in the month. GM reported a total of 923 hybrid sales in January, including: 599 2-mode full-size SUVs (Tahoe, 299; Yukon, 168; Escalade, 132), presenting 8.0% 153 VUE Green Line hybrids, representing 5.3% 145 Malibu hybrids, representing 1.6% 19 Aura hybrids, representing 1.4%
to 28,955 units; sales of SUVs dropped 60.9% Sales of the volume leading ALtima were down 46.9% to 12,012 units, including 222 Altimahybrids. Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales totaled 129,898, down 31% compared with April 2008. Sales of cars were down 28.8% to 52,463 units; sales of crossovers were down 15.1%

Meanwhile, the Ford Escape and Mariner hybrids saw sales drop by 40.5 General Motors: The company sold 1,534 units in April which consisted of: 523 two-mode SUVS (Tahoe, Yukon Escalade); 95 two-mode pick-ups (Silverado, Sierra); 547 Malibu hybrids; 338 Saturn VUE hybrids; 31 Saturn Aura hybrids.
Nissan: Until recently Nissan’s only contribution to the green car explosion was the AltimaHybrid, produced in collaboration with Toyota. In 2005, it launched the Ford Escape Hybrid – the first hybrid electric SUV. The company has enjoyed a 73 per cent increase in hybrid sales this year (see article ).
The New York Police Department (NYPD) has deployed 40 Nissan AltimaHybrids as the first alternative fuel vehicles to be used as marked and unmarked patrol cars in the Police Department’s fleet. The Nissan AltimaHybrids account for 40 of more than 100 total hybrid vehicles the Department is expected to deploy this year.
