If you've been to New York City lately, you may have noticed an increasing number of hybrid taxis on the roads: mostly Ford Escape Hybrid SUVs, but also Toyota Camry Hybrid and Nissan Altima Hybrid sedans, and a scattering of others too.

to 63,697 units; sales of crossovers were down only 9% to 35,582 units; sales of SUVs were off 37.4% Sales of the Ford Fusion were 19,786, Ford Flex sales were 4,305 and sales of the company’s hybrid vehicles totaled 3,906—setting three new sales records. The Altima remained the volume leader, with a 46.5% to 47,018 units.

Driven by an 80% reduction in fleet sales, GM dealers in the United States delivered 128,198 light-duty vehicles in January, down 48.9% Light truck sales were led by the RAV4 compact SUV with January sales of 8,034 units, down 26.3% TMS posted January sales of 11,876 hybrid vehicles, down 36.3% percent compared with a year ago.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has deployed 40 Nissan Altima Hybrids as the first alternative fuel vehicles to be used as marked and unmarked patrol cars in the Police Department’s fleet. The Nissan Altima Hybrids account for 40 of more than 100 total hybrid vehicles the Department is expected to deploy this year.
