The Los Angeles Harbor Commission recently approved up to $44.2 million in Port funding toward the 2009 Clean Truck Incentive Program at the Port of Los Angeles. Through this program we will help truck operators purchase alternative fuel trucks and continue our aggressive efforts to reduce port truck emissions.

In California, Big Blue Bus (BBB) will receive $870,000 from the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee’s (MSRC) Near Zero Engine Incentive Program. Big Blue Bus will use the grant approved by the MSRC partially to fund the purchase of 58 new Cummins-Westport 8.9L ISL G Near-Zero (NZ) 0.02 NO x engines.

These projects put more than 9,000 alternative fuel and energy-efficient light-, medium- and heavy-duty vehicles on the road, and establish 542 refueling locations across the country. The project will deploy 502 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles through 119 public and private fleets throughout the state.

The California Energy Commission approved funding of $505,329 for alternative-fuel vehicles and the installation of fueling stations that dispense alternative and renewable fuels. Buy-down incentives, totaling $122,000, will be awarded for 15 alternative-fuel vehicles.

DECEMBER 13, 2012
City of Monterey Park (Los Angeles County) will receive $300,000 to upgrade the city’s outdated compressed natural gas fueling station. The station will provide fueling for the public, the city’s transit system, and public works vehicles. Monterey Park will contribute $475,634 in matching funds for this project.

Funding comes from DOE’s Clean Cities Program, designed to assist the development of alternative fuel technologies, leading to decreased greenhouse gas emissions and reduced petroleum use in the transportation sector. This is in addition to $2,500 from the statewide Clean Vehicle Rebate Project.

An added benefit of the conversion program is that it not only reduces pollution but also extends the life of the vehicles, helping to eliminate waste production and creating a reduce-and-reuse program.
