The California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE) released two reports assessing the readiness of two different areas of California—the San Diego and the Central Valley regions—for the widespread use of electric vehicles. The reports show a wide difference in preparedness between the two.

If there was ever a car on the road fitting the bill as future, it is the 2024 Toyota Mirai Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV). This is impressive as there are only 55 operating hydrogen fuel stations in the state and the availability of hydrogen is sometimes spotty. No plugging in to an electrical outlet.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. Shifted earlier focus to all-electric Focus in 2011 with Magna. Focusing on all-electric, Nissan-Renault partnership with Better Place for EVs.
