Bloomberg, citing anonymous sources, reported Wednesday that first year sales of the automaker's plug-in hybrid could quadruple that of the Toyota Prius' U.S. The car, expected to run 40 miles without recharging, will cost less than $30,000. "If It will be difficult, though, because there are so many barriers to making this happen."

The extra lead-acid battery pack can be recharged externally at night from the Prius owner’s household 110 VAC source in a home garage. By not employing the gasoline engine to recharge the lead-acid pack, the “electric-only” range of the Nickel-Metal Hydride battery pack is extended from one mile to about 10 miles.
