DNV GL paper suggests near-term success for LNG in shipping; alternative fuel mix to diversify over time

Green Car Congress

Well-to-Propeller GHG emissions results for marine alternative fuels. DNV GL has released a position paper on the future alternative fuel mix for global shipping. The global merchant fleet currently consumes around 330 million tonnes of fuel annually, 80-85 per cent of which is residual fuel with high sulfur content.

IPG to demo Flameless Ceramic Turbine for clean, off-grid power in EV charging

Green Car Congress

Highways England is funding this project to assess how IPG's turbine technology could present a solution for delivering power at a competitive cost while improving air quality, that would alleviate grid stress in high-use areas, as well as enabling remote locations to facilitate EV charging.

European Commission proposes Euro 7 standards

Green Car Congress

The European Commission presented its proposal for Euro 7 standards to reduce air pollution from new motor vehicles sold in the EU. The new rules are fuel- and technology-neutral, placing the same limits regardless of whether the vehicle uses gasoline, diesel, electric drive-trains or alternative fuels.

Altalto waste-to-jet fuel plant advances in UK; BA, Shell, Velocys

Green Car Congress

The fuel will also improve air quality with up to 90% reduction in soot from aircraft engine exhausts and almost 100% reduction in sulfur oxides; and the technology offers a lower emissions route to process UK waste than incineration or landfill.

DLR wrapping up ECLIF in-flight study of emissions from alternative aviation fuels; potential for improved fuel design

Green Car Congress

In a three-week series of flight tests lasting until 9 October 2015, the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) has been investigating how to reduce the impact of air transport on the climate by using alternative fuels. At present, global air traffic contributes towards almost 5% of global warming.

DLR: cleaner aircraft emissions reduce the climate impact of contrail cirrus

Green Car Congress

Fewer soot particles in the exhaust stream of aircraft reduces the formation of ice crystals and therefore the climate impact of the resulting contrail cirrus. and d contrail cirrus net radiative forcing due to a 80% reduced initial ice crystal number (low minus present-day initial ice crystal number). Study finds POMDME-diesel blends cut soot up to 34% with no NOx increase

Green Car Congress

The team examined blends of 5% and 10% POMDME in diesel in a single-cylinder heavy-duty diesel engine to gain an overview of the blend’s impact on engine performance and exhaust emissions. A paper on their work appears in the journal Fuel. The POMDME fuel presented an oxygen overall mass fraction of 0.46 Iannuzzi et al.
