Road Test: 2023 Mazda CX-50 AWD Mazda Wants You to Live A Little The 2023 CX-50 is part of Mazda’s SUV quiver, smallest to largest, of the CX-30, CX-5, CX-50 and CX-9. Mazda wants the CX-50 to be seen as its first-ever adventure-oriented SUV. Fuel economy is EPA rated at 23/29/25 mpg for the turbocharged CX-50.

Mazda has added another SUV to their lineup. This past week in Santa Barbara, Mazda invited the automotive media to drive the CX-50 on the highway, twisty mountain roads and then off-road to experience soft sand, steep climbs and descents. Mazda adds another SUV. All Mazda SUVs will now come only with all-wheel drive (AWD).

2021 Mazda CX-9 owners say things like “exceeds my expectations,” “I love it,” “it is one of the most beautiful cars on the road” and “super happy with my purchase.” At least that’s what Mazda says. The XC60 Recharge Ultimate has standard four-wheel independent suspension, but can add (as ours did) an optional air suspension for $1,800. The XC60 Recharge comes standard with eAWD and an Off-Road drive mode setting, but don’t confuse it with the likes of a Land Rover, Range Rover, Bronco or Jeep. Very clean.
