AFV are alternative fuel vehicles: electric, LPG, NG-biomethane, E85, biodiesel, hybrid and plug-in vehicles. The average CO 2 emissions level of a new car sold in 2013 was 127 g CO 2 /km; the target for 2015 was 130 g/km. The average per-km CO 2 emissions for gasoline-fueled cars was 128.62 Source: EEA.

ACEA published the second edition of Making the Transition to Zero-Emission Mobility , an annual study which tracks progress on the availability of the infrastructure and incentives which are necessary to foster market uptake of alternatively-powered vehicles. The fuel efficiency of new cars sold in the European Union (EU) continued to improve last year but at a slower rate, according to provisional data from the European Environment Agency. g CO 2 /km, new cars sold in 2016 emitted more than 23 g CO 2 /km above the 2021 target, according to the provisional emissions reported by Member States.

The latest edition of “ Monitoring CO 2 emissions from new passenger cars in the EU ” includes provisional data on vehicles sold in 2012.
