These vehicles will be leased to 20 agencies, including the Department of Energy, and will be located in Washington, DC; Detroit, MI; Los Angeles, CA; San Diego, CA; and San Francisco, CA. Last year, GSA doubled the Federal hybrid fleet without increasing the total number of vehicles. Optimum fleet size.

In response to this directive, the Energy Commission’s Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program (ARFVTP) has already allocated nearly $400 million to help bolster statewide infrastructure and create a viable market for zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), and to promote alternative fuels.

These projects put more than 9,000 alternative fuel and energy-efficient light-, medium- and heavy-duty vehicles on the road, and establish 542 refueling locations across the country. The project will deploy 502 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles through 119 public and private fleets throughout the state.

The mechanical engineering department at Marquette University has an up-and-coming research program focused on alternative fuels for internal combustion engines with support from the DOE, ARPA-e, and NSF.

By the end of this year, Frito-Lay will have more than 275 electric trucks deployed in the US, making Frito-Lay the largest commercial fleet of all-electric trucks in the country. The Energy Commission approved 15 grants totaling more than $5 million to install 475 electric vehicle chargers in communities throughout California, including the cities of San Francisco, Burbank, Torrance and San Diego and the counties of Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Orange, Riverside and Los Angeles.

Electric Power Research Institute , based in Palo Alto, will receive $964,210 to retrofit five existing heavy-duty diesel work trucks with a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle powertrain system. The project will demonstrate the performance, fuel savings and emissions reductions for the work trucks in Southern California.
