Intelligent Power Generation (IPG) will demonstrate the impact of Flameless Ceramic Turbine technology in UK electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, following a £1-million contract from Highways England. Not only can IPG’s technology deliver low-emission, pollutant-free energy on today’s cleaner fuels.
The US Department of Energy (DOE) has selected 25 cost-share projects under the Clean Cities program that will be funded with nearly $300 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Selected projects, by size of award, are: State of Wisconsin’s Wisconsin Clean Transportation Program. Total DOE award: $15,000,000.

This “CleanAlternativeFuel Vehicle and Engine Conversions” (CAFC) rule, created a special category, known as Outside Useful Life (OUL), which applies to heavy-duty diesel engines with more than 435,000 miles, or more than 22,000 hours of operation, or are more than 10 years old.
The deal includes an order for three of Wabtec’s FLXdrive battery locomotives and a collaboration to test ammonia as a potential clean, alternativefuel to replace diesel. Among the advantages of ammonia is the fact that it allows the locomotive a longer range than other carbon-free fuels.
Currently, 300 fuel-cell vehicles have been placed on California roads and manufacturers expect to increase that to 4,300 by 2014. Fuel cell technology is also being used to power transit buses and forklifts, and to produce electricity for industrial uses. Examples of these will be showcased at some of the tour’s stops.
Each of the four recipients will match a percentage of the grant amount with their own funds to purchase compressed natural gas-powered vehicles; retrofit diesel engines with cleaner technology; replace older, more polluting diesel buses with cleaner diesel buses; or purchase hybrid electric-powered buses.
On the utility side, Rocky Mountain Power offers incentives to commercial customers in Utah that cover 75% of the costs, ranging from $1,000 per Level 2 charger up to $42,000 per multiport DC fast charger. Georgia Power offers $500 per Level 2 charger. These are just a few examples.
