Alternative Fuels Chinese Coal Low Cost

In a new report, energy, mining and minerals consultancy Wood Mackenzie projects that despite efforts to limit coal consumption and seek alternative fuel options, China’s strong appetite for thermal coal will lead to a doubling of demand by 2030. Wood Mackenzie’s report says this will have a limited impact on coal demand.

The global energy mix is the most diverse the world has ever seen by 2040, with oil, gas, coal and non-fossil fuels each contributing around a quarter. Renewables are by far the fastest-growing fuel source, increasing five-fold and providing around 14% of primary energy.

The alternative-fuel car evolved to reduce exhaust emissions and other problems derived from burning fossil fuels. The PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), a subset of the electric car, combines a primary electric motor with a much smaller back-up engine fueled with a hydrocarbon/biofuel mix.

The F6 DM uses ferrous batteries, with no lithium content, that BYD says are high-energy density and low cost. Kwong said Toyota is concerned PHEVs might just replace gas problems with more coal emissions, since the cars will require more electricity from utilities. BYD also developed the motors and software for the system.

Last year Oregon had also aggressively negotiated with the Chinese carmaker, BYD , to manufacture its line of plug-in hybrids in the state for sale in the U.S.) Even if you charge your EV with electricity made from coal fired generators you reduce your car’s pollution by half. We need to stop BURNING fuel in our cars.
