Porsche will manufacture the future all-electric version of the fourth-generation Cayenne at Volkswagen Slovakia’s multi-brand location in Bratislava. Prototype of the new Cayenne Porsche has already announced a further all-electric SUV above the Cayenne for the second half of the decade.

ŠKODA AUTO, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, is introducing a smart energy storage system using second-life batteries from electric vehicles. The system stores sustainably generated electricity in used batteries that come from the all-electric SUV ŠKODA ENYAQ iV as well as the plug-in hybrid models SUPERB iV and OCTAVIA iV.

Moreover, the market penetration of zero- and low-emission vehicles, including electric cars, remained slow in 2018.

EEA said that one reason for the increase in car emissions is the growing share of the sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment. The market penetration of electric cars remained slow in 2019. Gasoline cars were the most sold passenger vehicles, constituting 59% of all new registrations (and 63% including hybrid electric vehicles (HEV)).

Despite growing at a slower rate than in previous years, the shift from traditional cars to SUVs continued in 2018.
