In 2011, Green Car Reports launched an award for the new car, or family of cars, that represented the best green vehicle introduced for the model year. The Nissan Leaf won that year because it was the sole affordable battery-electric vehicle on the market.

The 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show opens to the public today with a glittering display of green cars taking pride of place. Los Angeles-based start-up, Hybrid Kinetic Motors (HK Motors) has announced plans to construct a new green-vehicle manufacturing plant in Baldwin County, Alabama in the US. The firm has set an ambitious target of offer a full-range of hybrid vehicles with production set to start by 2013.

Mike O’Brien, Hyundai vice president of corporate and product planning, noted that the “green car market” in the US has declined a bit—about one hundred thousand units since its high in 2013 with 3.8% market share for all electrified vehicles (hybrid, PHEV and BEV).
