The Reddit user writes in their post that, when faced with buying a new vehicle , they came across a shop in Portland Oregon called EV Rides that would take older Nissan Leafs and retrofit them with batteries from newer models.

Navigant’s analysis indicates that only buyers in California and Oregon will purchase sufficient numbers of vehicles in order to meet the ZEV requirement in 2018 and 2019. Tesla is also readying the Model X, a more affordable crossover for launch by the end of 2014. By 2022, not even California will meet the 10% ZEV requirement.
