The concept of “intelligent electrification” enables highly aggressive engine downsizing and down-speeding beyond what might normally be possible other than through more expensive hybridization approaches. Further energy recovery is achieved from CPT’s exhaust-mounted 48V turbine integrated exhaust gas energy recovery system known as TIGERS.
This is to be achieved through the synergistic application of an extremely downsized gasoline engine coupled with electrified boosting and exhaust gas energy recovery; micro-hybrid functionality with stop/start, torque assist and regenerative braking; and a novel energy storage technology. The £3 million (US$4.9 Earlier post.)
At 48 volts, a VTES electric supercharger will transform 7kW of battery power into a highly boosted charge of air for downsized gasoline and diesel engines. There will be no torque deficit or other tradeoffs from essential engine downsizing and higher gearing, which now dominates the development of internal combustion engines.
The automotive industry, including Lotus Engineering, has quite rightly advocated engine downsizing for four-stroke engines. Downsizing therefore isn’t vital and, due to the improved light-load efficiency and emissions performance we see with Omnivore, this technology approach and ‘upsizing’ could permit a more efficient engine.
Others include: Stoichiometric direct injection typically affords a 1.5 Turbocharging and downsizing can also yield fuel consumption reductions. Downsizing is an important strategy applicable in combination with technologies that increase engine torque, such as turbocharging or supercharging.
The selected projects will focus on reducing the total cost of ownership of NGVs, increasing vehicle efficiency, decreasing local air pollution, and advancing technology development to increase the use of more affordable medium- and heavy-duty natural gas engines and vehicles. Cummins Inc. Plug-in Hybrid CNG Drayage Truck “PHET”.
This means that in addition the power demand is more difficult to achieve with engine downsizing and transmission down-speeding alone. Low voltage hybridization on the other hand, for a new class of 48V hybrid vehicle, provides an affordable compromise between efficiency and cost. Click to enlarge. The conference.
Most of the projects will support the goals of EV Everywhere, an Energy Department program that aims to make PEVs as affordable and convenient as gasoline-powered vehicles by 2022. valve faces, piston crowns, and exhaust ports) to improve fuel economy. valve faces, piston crowns, and exhaust ports) to improve fuel economy.
What fuel and engine combinations are sustainable, affordable, and scalable? Thrust 1 builds on the significant amount of work carried out over the past several decades, focused on building advanced boosted, downsized, and downspeeded spark ignition engines. How do engine parameters affect efficiency? Earlier post.)
The US Department of Energy (DOE) will award up to $7 million in project funding to accelerate the introduction of affordable, scalable, and sustainable high-performance fuels for use in high-efficiency, low-emission engines as part of the Co-Optimization of Fuels and Engines (Co-Optima) initiative. Earlier post.).
To achieve this, the partners will look into the synergistic application of an extremely downsized petrol engine as well as exhaust gas recovery, electrified boosting, micro-hybrid functionality with stop/start, regenerative braking, a novel energy storage technology and torque assist. . “The
Focused on meeting a growing customer demand for ‘downsized’ engines offering strong power with reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, the new gasoline and diesel powertrains are being progressively introduced across the Opel product range. The engine retains the proven concept of a turbine-integrated exhaust manifold.
Automakers are finding it difficult to challenge those boldface numbers with internal combustion alone, especially as engines are relentlessly downsized to meet regulations. Eventually, people will want vehicles powered by internal combustion because they are quaint. A jaw-dropping weight-to-power ratio of 1.57 And don’t forget sound.
