The BMW M Hybrid V8 is powered by the P66/3 eight-cylinder turbo engine with supplementary electric drive. The combustion engine is based on the DTM unit used in the BMW M4 DTM in 2017 and 2018. The normally-aspirated P66/1 eight-cylinder engine used in the 2017 and 2018 seasons in the BMW M4 DTM was the one that got the nod.

R Pikes Peak in June 2018 and, with a time of 7:57.148 minutes, became the first driver in over 100 years of this iconic race to go under eight minutes. The current record for fully-electric vehicles stands at 6:45.90 —François-Xavier Demaison. He won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with the ID.

Depending on the general development of the racing series, a works involvement is envisaged as of the series’ season 5, 2018/2019, provided the conditions and circumstances are right. Electric mobility will continue to grow in importance. The plan is for BMW to enter the FIA World Endurance Championship in the 2018 season.

Continental has signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with NIO, a global electric vehicle startup. In a first step, Continental will supply vehicle technology such as air suspension systems and tires to NIO’s ES8 electric SUV. Cars of the future will feature electric drives, which will be fully connected and automated.
