Kroemer was professor emeritus of electrical and computer engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara , when he died. In 1964, Kroemer became the first researcher to publish an explanation of the Gunn Effect , a high-frequency oscillation of electrical current flowing through certain semiconducting solids.
