Cadillac has tried electrifying cars before. Based on the Chevrolet Volt platform and technology, the ELR coupe was ahead of its time for the traditional Cadillac buyer, which was too bad. Then in 2017 along came the CT6 PHEV , an electrified version of Cadillac’s full-size, flagship sedan, but 2019 saw the end of this car.

The intention is to make the company’s two electric car offerings more attractive to consumers, especially those that are looking for an affordable alternative to a gasoline-powered car. Chevrolet announced this week that its 2023 Bolt EV and Bolt EUV are going to get major drops in price. Same car, less cost. Bolt EV $26,595 ($32,495).

On January 28 GM announced that it plans (aspires) to exclusively offer electric vehicles by 2035, ending production of its cars, trucks and SUVs with diesel- and gasoline-powered engines. Some of the EVs we saw in GM’s Design Dome (Cadillac Celestiq and probably the unnamed Buick crossover) are clearly targeted for China.
