China is the world’s largest user of lithium, accounting for 57% of global demand in 2019, and is also the biggest supplier of lithium converted products. Chinese EV sales through to July totalled 696,000 this year. However, the combined conversion capacities of these two market leaders is below 30% of total Chinese capacity.

The Dongfeng-Renault joint venture will establish a new manufacturing plant which will start producing vehicles in 2016. Sales of locally produced vehicles will start in 2016. The Renault brand has been present in the Chinese market with the imported cars such as Koleos and Fluence. The investment for the 50/50 JV totals 7.76

Seres is a subsidiary of Chinese auto giant Dongfeng, and the Seres 3 has sold in China as the Fengon E3 since 2019. Seres’ global website says the company was founded in 2016 in Silicon Valley and launched its first car in China in 2018. But if the brand survives in France for that amount of time is another matter.

Starting in 2016, this will be followed by two models developed specially for the Chinese market: These are the Audi A6 ( earlier post ) and a new mid-size limousine from the Volkswagen brand, both plug-in hybrids which are being developed together with the joint venture partners FAW Volkswagen and Shanghai Volkswagen and will be produced locally.

In the presence of Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in Berlin, Volkswagen signed a joint venture agreement with the Chinese automaker Anhui Jianghuai Automobile (JAC). The objective is to deliver 400,000 electric vehicles to the Chinese market in 2020 and 1.5 million electric vehicles in 2025.

At Bauma China 2016, Asia’s biggest trade fair for construction equipment, DEUTZ and its Chinese joint venture, DEUTZ (Dalian) Engine (DDE) unveiled new TCD 9.0 The plan is for DEUTZ’s Chinese joint venture to manufacture the TCD 9.0 will also be manufactured in China by DEUTZ’s Chinese joint venture DEUTZ (Dalian) Engine.
