Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and BMW of North America (BMW) are collaborating to test how vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology can serve as a solution to offset growing demand on the power grid, improve reliability for electric customers, and maximize the usage of renewable energy.

Partners Volkswagen AG, Lichtblick SE, SMA Solar Technology AG and the Fraunhofer Institute Wind Energy and Energy System Technology (IWES) have submitted the final report from the INEES research project (Intelligent integration of electric vehicles into the power grid for the provision of system services).

The cooperation will create a city-wide standardized charging system for electric and electric hybrid buses that can charge buses quickly through an automatic roof-top connection system at bus stops or through cabled charging systems overnight. 400 kW of power is also required at intermediate bus stop to perform the 15-second flash charge.

These vehicles all have built-in connectivity to REV’s AutoGrid Network. The REV vehicles act as dynamic energy storage devices on the power grid, together acting as an extension of the power plant whenever they are plugged in. So demand is there, and we’re prepared to scale quickly.
