Ford China broke sales records for a third consecutive month in November. Led by strong sales of the Ford Focus—the best-selling passenger car in China from August through October—Ford sold 67,505 wholesale vehicles last month, a 56% increase compared to November 2011. Ford China’s year-to-date sales are now up 18%.

Mazda Motor Corp. plans to convert by 2015 a plant that currently makes engine parts for commercial vehicles into a production site for parts used in fuel-efficient Skyactiv engines for light-duty vehicles. Mazda recently decided to exit the struggling commercial vehicle business.

Ford China posted a 32% sales increase in July 2012, with 42,560 wholesale units sold. Total Ford-brand passenger cars sales—which include the imported Ford Edge—are up 50% in July, at 27,498 units. These new models are part of Ford’s plan to introduce 15 new vehicles and 20 new powertrains to China by 2015.

Ford sales in China are up 7% for the first 11 month of this year. Sales for Ford-brand vehicles at Changan Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA), Ford’s passenger vehicle joint venture, are up 6% this year, to 289,870 wholesale vehicles from 274,396 last year.

Ford will invest US$760 million to build a new assembly plant in Hangzhou, China with its joint venture Changan Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA), adding initial capacity of 250,000 units. When Hangzhou opens in 2015, Ford’s total passenger car capacity in China will increase to 1.2 million units annually, doubling current output.
