Hyundai and the US Department of Energy (DOE) are extending their fuel cell vehicle confirmation program, originally from 2013 through 2015, to a second phase, from 2016 through 2017. In February, Hyundai reported that Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell drivers had accumulated more than 1,000,000 miles on the roads and highways of Southern California.

The Golf Variant twïnDRIVE enables distances of up to 57 km (35 miles) on pure electrical power; an additional small internal combustion engine provides for a total range of about 900 km (559 miles).
