The eAssist system captures up to 15kW of energy that would be normally lost during braking and uses it to recharge the lithium-ion battery. With eAssist technology, which also enables a numerically lower final drive ratio, the Malibu ECO can travel as much as 550 miles between fill-ups. Pricing will be announced later.

The all-electric vehicle range of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt will increase by three miles from the 2012 model to be 38 miles on a single charge. The miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) fuel economy will increase from 94 miles to 98 miles and the total range, including extended range operation, will be 380 miles.

GM is producing 2 vehicles a day with the goal of having a total of 76 vehicles available by the end of the summer; these vehicles will be used for validation testing ranging from fit and finish reviews, to durability testing to eventual crash testing. Ford’s all-new Focus Electric has been certified by the EPA to offer 105 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) combined, with 110 MPGe city and 99 MPGe on the highway. Consumption is 34 kWh/100 miles, combined cycle. The smaller Mitsubishi i-MiEV is rated at 112 MPGe combined, with consumption of 30 kWh/100 miles.

BYD , for examples, says their 60 mile range-extended vehicle can add 30 miles of range in ten minutes. Please feel free to tell us what you believe to be the benefits of some of the various recharging modes mentioned above in the comments section below. I would prefer to recharge at home, and could do so.
