The addition of the 2 electric cars brings to 80 the number of award winners so far for 2011, including 7 hybrid models. That lifts General Motors’ current model tally to 12 and Nissan’s to 3. The ratings help consumers pick vehicles that offer a higher level of protection than federal safety standards require.

The building coincides with the announcement in September that General Motors will team up with the company to develop a plug-in version of the best-selling GM Spark mini-car as the US giant looks to embrace electric powered driving. It will allow REVA to boast one of the lowest dirt-to-dust carbon footprints in the automotive world.

Great Wall Motor Co., Those prices are much lower than that of General Motors Corp.s GM plans to launch the Volt in China in 2011. Chinese auto makers also showed other types of "new energy" vehicles, including regular gasoline-electric hybrids to compete with Toyota Motor Corp.s in late 2010.

In addition to a recent electric car deal with NISSAN Motors ( NSANY ), Portland General Electric, the Oregon state governor and GE have also announced a joint venture with Mitsubishi Motors ( MMTOF.PK ) to develop and sell the Miev electric car with 85 mile range by 2011. By 2011 look for a larger THINK Ox.

" In other words, General Motors is going to lose its shirt until the Volt establishes itself in the marketplace. General Motors has sought $10.3 cheaper (frame, electric motors, battery), lasts longer (less moving parts = less to break and maintain) and just a greater win, more future compatible too.
