Finally, there are charging stations. They offer the opportunity of adding range to your vehicle while you are working, eating or shopping.

The new plug-in vehicle will be able to exceed highway speed limits, go 100 miles on a charge and recharge in four to eight hours using a 220-volt line, similar to those for clothes dryers, said Mark Perry, director of product planning for Nissan North America.

Newly installed CEO Fritz Henderson argues that pioneering projects like the Volt typically lose money until the technology catches on. The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. It is 12 years later.
