Remembering Lithium-Ion Battery Pioneer John Goodenough

Goodenough , one of the inventors of the lithium-ion battery, died on 25 June at age 100. Goodenough, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Texas at Austin , authored more than 800 technical papers during his career. It gave the battery a significant voltage boost: from 2.4 to 4 volts.

GM Extends EV Development with S. Korean Demo Fleet of Battery-Electric Chevrolet Cruzes; LG Chem Batteries, LG Electronics Propulsion Systems

General Motors announced a demonstration project ( earlier post ) to explore market needs and customer acceptance of battery electric vehicles in Korea. The Cruze EV is equipped with a 31 kWh battery that generates maximum power of 150 kW. On a standard household 220-volt outlet, the Cruze EV can be fully recharged in 8 to 10 hours.
