Exxon Mobil beginning development of ultra-deepwater Julia oil field in Gulf of Mexico

Exxon Mobil Corporation is commencing development of the ultra-deepwater Julia oil field in the Gulf of Mexico. Capital cost for the project, which is expected to begin oil production in 2016, is estimated to be more than $4 billion. ExxonMobil, the operator, and Statoil Gulf of Mexico LLC each hold a 50% interest in the Julia unit.

Statoil greenlights $7B Mariner heavy-oil project in UK North Sea

Statoil has made the investment decision to develop the Mariner heavy oil field development in the UK North Sea. The field was discovered in 1981 and Statoil entered the license as operator in 2007 with the aim of finally unlocking the resources. BP Announces Giant Oil Discovery in the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico

BP announced a giant oil discovery at its Tiber Prospect in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico (GOM). The well, located in Keathley Canyon block 102, approximately 250 miles (400 kilometers) south east of Houston, is in 4,132 feet (1,259 metres) of water. The well found oil in multiple Lower Tertiary reservoirs.
