Crude palm oil is one of the more than ten renewable raw materials that Neste uses to produce a range of renewable products, including renewable diesel. Palm oil represents approximately 20% of Neste’s renewable raw material usage annually. A belt filter dewaters by applying pressure to solids to squeeze out the water.

Several studies have shown that biofuel production can be increased without a significant increase in acreage, but the debate has only been made all the more tempestuous by the 2007-2008 world food price crises. Further worries include the impact on water resources. There are concerns too about soil erosion and deforestation.
