The cars were powered by a 72-volt lead-acid battery. It had an AC induction motor and a 96V lead-acid battery pack as its power source. MEML was closed in 2004 due to a lack of demand. The government is now focusing its efforts on heavily polluted cities to boost the use of electric vehicles.
