2010 engines emissions reduction relative to 2010, 2007, and 2004 US emission standards. For a number of the most important pollutants, levels were substantially lower than required by regulations. These reductions came while emissions of fine particles were also 92% lower than the 2010 standard 99% lower than 2004 emissions.

The requirements for intermediate age vehicles and engines would involve testing and submission of data to show that the converted vehicle or engine continues to meet applicable standards.
