They were not widely used, but for some reason the surplus store had a big box of them. We bought a booth at the first RoboNexus trade show held in San Jose in 2004. Then, I found some gyros at a surplus electronics warehouse—single axis piezoelectric devices originally made for camcorders and computer mice.
