People might be bored reading about the Prius but a review on four Priuses (2004, 2005, two 2006s) that my family owns that ran a total of 913k km (570k miles) should be interesting, right? It was time to buy our first car. I found a a 2004 with 247k km (154k miles) on the clock. This criteria only left the Prius in play.

Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. At these prices, people are buying the "environmental feature" -- they want to be among the first owners of the worlds cleanest extended-range vehicles. They are early adopters, buying "Version 1.0" So far, most start as hybrids.

The conversion can double or even triple fuel economy, thereby severely limiting carbon dioxide emissions. General Motors plans to unveil the Chevy Volt, a plug-in hybrid, sometime in 2010, and Toyota may begin selling a plug-in Prius in late 2010 or early 2011. The conversion is simple.

Several dozen prototypes on 15-passenger van since 2004; now in second generation development; no production plans.
