This new line will offer more choices to fleet managers who seek to convert their fleets to plug-in electric hybrid. There are currently more than 125,000 E350 vans of the 2004-2010 model years registered to corporate, government and utility fleet owners in the US.

In 2011, Volvo announced it would build its own technological future based on two in-house developed strategies: a scalable vehicle architecture (SPA); and a new engine range consisting solely of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines (Volvo Engine Architecture, VEA4). L/100km (29 mpg US) on the European cycle, for 186 g CO 2 /km.

How does this sound: 100+ MPG in a regular vehicle? For people looking for the most effective way to end our addiction to oil, PHEVs have made sense because carmakers can build them now, with todays technology and using todays infrastructure. At $3 for a gallon of gas, driving a non-hybrid car costs 8-20 cents/mile (depending on MPG).
