US subsidies for fuels and renewable energy, 2002-2008. The study, “Estimating US Government Subsidies to Energy Sources: 2002-2008”, found that fossil fuels benefited from approximately $72 billion over the seven-year period, while subsidies for renewable fuels totaled $29 billion. Nuclear was not included in the analysis.

The KPMG research finds that the external environmental costs of 11 key industry sectors jumped 50% from US$566 to US$846 billion in 8 years (2002 to 2010), averaging a doubling of these costs every 14 years. The closest comparisons for hydrogen-only cars are the Toyota Mirai and Hyundai Nexo. To provide a basis for comparison, Honda let us first drive a 2024 CR-V Hybrid that weighed 500 pounds less than the e:FCEV. MPGe fuel economy is rated at 61 mpg city/52 highway/57 combined using the electric battery and compressed hydrogen fuel.

That way you have a fair basis of comparison, you know, apples to apples and all that jazz. Engineering proptypes enjoy a tax break. Companies can not sell engineering prototypes in which the company got R&D tax breaks in developing the product. We are addicted to the gasoline tax both at the State and Federal level.
