US, Canada and Mexico release atlas mapping North American potential CO2 storage capacity; 500 years of geologic storage

Green Car Congress

The US Department of Energy (DOE), Natural Resources Canada and the Mexican Ministry of Energy have released the first-ever atlas mapping the potential carbon dioxide storage capacity in North America. Those technologies can also be used for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) to produce hard-to-access oil, while storing the carbon dioxide.

ICCT study finds that transitioning to low-GWP MAC refrigerants in China could avoid up to US$150B in costs

Green Car Congress

China fully embraced HFC-134a in 2001 when it implemented its obligations under the 1987 Montreal Protocol. However, China has announced an intention to halt economy-wide GHG (or CO2-equivalent) emissions growth around or before 2030, and to reduce carbon intensity per unit gross domestic product (GDP) by 65% in that same time frame.

Study finds removing corn residue for biofuel production can decrease soil organic carbon and increase CO2 emissions; may miss mandated 60% GHG reduction

Green Car Congress

Using corn crop residue to make ethanol and other biofuels reduces soil carbon and under some conditions can generate more greenhouse gases than gasoline, according to a major, multi-year study by a University of Nebraska-Lincoln team of researchers published in the journal Nature Climate Change.
