Fresh wheels, bumpers and grille give the Electrified G80 a smoother aerodynamic profile as well as creating some visual differentiation from the petrol versions. But it comes at a price premium over petrol G80s, albeit with plenty of performance courtesy of a punchy dual-motor setup that provides all-wheel drive. Range : 520km (WLTP).

The rear lights are even better. From about $69,000 drive-away – $2000 more than our e-2008 as tested – the RWD version has 455km range, 194kW/340Nm, 170kW maximum charging, and mega cabin space for families. At least rear seats are comfortable and it’s nice and light in the back thanks to the included glass sunroof.

Much has been achieved through fakery – ‘petrol’ engine note and gear shifts included – but there’s been no reason to hide this. Only options are a Vision Roof (panoramic glass) costing $2000, and matte paint for $1000. This would be typical of most track sessions with a petrol performance car, really.

We should be concentrating on eliminating the hoggiest of the hogs by hybridizing them or reducing their acceleration which BY ITSELF reduces consumption since it leads drivers to unlearn stop and go driving, instead timing arrival at lights to when they are green. So is the management in Washinton DC. WTF do they need ANOTHER $10.3B
