Buoyed by the US government’s CARS (“Cash for Clunkers”) program, US auto sales slowed their decline in the US in July, dropping on 12.1% Toyota Motor Sales, USA (TMS) reported July sales of 174,872, down 11.4% Monthly new vehicle market share for hybrids. Some manufacturers have focused on hybrids, others on electrics - but it is the clean diesels of Volkswagen that are reaping the rewards in the USA. Indeed clean diesel TDIs represented 81 per cent of SportWagon sales and 40 per cent of Jetta saloon car sales, which reached a total of 9,663 units.
